What
is the water temperature?
The temperature during the month of August is approximately 29c(85f)
What
is the registration or entry fee?
A $100USD entry fee will be applicable. This is one time non-refundable entrance
fee. The fee includes round trip transportation to the swim site on the day, a
commemorative T-shirt and evening meal at the PT 109 Bar and Restaurant during
the presentation of awards/prizes.
What
is the purpose of the swim?
The swim is to
raise money for the Gizo Hospital
and Gizo community schools. Each swimmer will be asked to come with a pledge or
own sponsorship. There will be an award to the swimmer who makes the largest
financial contribution/pledge.
What
sort of sea condition should we expect for the swim?
The swim is
being conducted inside the “Lagoon” or with-in the barrier reefs system that
is made up from several small islands and atolls. You can expect a slight chop
of about ˝ meter and a slight current for the swim.
How
do we get there?
Solomon Airlines
has three (3) international flights a week into Honiara, the capital of the
Solomon Islands. They depart from Nadi
(Fiji) earlier on Thursday mornings. They also have a twice a week service from
Brisbane, which departs early on Tuesday & Thursday mornings. Domestic
connection will have to be made to Gizo from Honiara.
